Not o...Douglas Jardine was a despicable individual. Not only was the he the one who invented the Bodyline tactics, tactics specifically designed to intimidate or injure a batsman, but he was also arrogant, fussy and incredibly self-centred. Gubby Allen, an English fast bowler who was part of the English attack during the 1932-33 Ashes, put into words exactly what kind of person Jardine is (keep in mind, this is from a man who knew Jardine when he was alive, not someone writing about him 53 years after he died): Douglas Jardine is loathed and, between you and me, rightly, more than any German who fought in any war. I am fed up with anything to do with cricket... He seems too damn stupid and he whines away if he doesn't have everything he wants... Some days I feel I should like to kill him and today is one of those days.

Also, when Australian captain Bill Woodfull (who, by the way, was resolute and dignified throughout the entire series, even going over to the English dressing room to congratulate Jardine on winning the series, even after he himself was bruised and battered beyond belief by the English attack) was struck in the chest, directly in front of the heart by a ball of Harold Larwood, Jardine yelled : "Well bowled, Harold!". The fact that Jardine said this, after it had obviously caused a man great pain, also exemplifies his cruelty and vileness.

Douglas Jardine was a horrible human being, and one who never deserved to be involved in the game of cricket. You should read this article to really know who Douglas Jardine was: http://www.dangermouse.net/cricket/history/bodyline.html

Thanks for reading.

P.S. Saying 'truly really, especially without a comma makes very little grammatical sense, just thought you should know.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3136717530494181436.post-27877686445524607952014-08-14T22:36:23.188-07:002014-08-14T22:36:23.188-07:00For anyone reading this review, I can only suggest...For anyone reading this review, I can only suggest reading the book for yourself and making your own mind up. I couldn't disagree any more strongly with this review.

The book, in my view, is about Phil Jackson and his development as a coach and more wholly as a person. Yes it's about his spiritual journey but not exclusively about that. He uses the quotes to acknowledge the wisdom which existed prior to his existence and not to claim to be the inventor of this wisdom. It describes his journey about the gaining of said wisdom. What this reviewer has missed is that the quoted texts have no meaning for Jackson (and many of us) until we connect with them spiritually with our own experiences.

The book is about Jackson's journey, not what happened to the athletes he coached post playing days. Jackson was employed to win Championships. Clearly he overachieved. And he did this with getting the athletes to buy into his philosophy of "losing some of the me, for the betterment of the we".

It's a great read with an opportunity to learn about yourself if you can self-reflect with honesty and do so with an open mind. I read it many years ago and has significantly contributed to my coaching practice and in life.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3136717530494181436.post-85557177477090266902014-05-19T01:10:51.180-07:002014-05-19T01:10:51.180-07:00i like this post and this awesome cricket blog as ...i like this post and this awesome cricket blog as well,
keep sharing
Cricinfohttp://9cric.com/category/sports-news/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3136717530494181436.post-70848999909604184062014-05-06T22:41:35.530-07:002014-05-06T22:41:35.530-07:00Thanks for checking in! Arguably Australia has at present more top line spin prospects (relative to positions available) than bats.Ben Robertshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00482356578373540986noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3136717530494181436.post-18946522042363264782013-02-25T19:20:44.991-08:002013-02-25T19:20:44.991-08:00As for the lack of opportunity afforded to First-C...As for the lack of opportunity afforded to First-Class spinners, well, you've both got a point. The lack of FC experience that most players get now is galling - especially when matches against touring international parties are now like hen's teeth. Personally, I don't think it's a coincidence that the most successful Australian teams came on the back of several of their players honing their games in County Cricket in England (even if that player didn't necessarily make a big splash in the Test time, c.f. Stuart Law). The returning County Pros then improved the local standard of cricket in their home state.

Cricket Australia might be best served by installing a regular Australia A schedule which allowed players like Agar, Glenn Maxwell and Usman Khawaja the chance to tour other countries more regularly; the 1992 Australia A tour to Zimbabwe is still notorious for the sheer output of outstanding talents that grew from it.matthew_woodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06997294649154263799noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3136717530494181436.post-45928082541247248592013-02-25T19:15:27.889-08:002013-02-25T19:15:27.889-08:00Don't get me wrong, I completely understand th...Don't get me wrong, I completely understand that New South Wales is the most populous state and therefore is liable to produce the most talent.

According to the most recent figures, New South Wales' population is 30% greater than Victoria's, and 60% larger than Queensland. The numbers say that New South Wales produces on par for it's population; I haven't checked those of Victoria or Queensland, but off the top of my head I can think only of Zoolander and Shane Watson as Queenslanders who play elsewhere (I'm sure others will turn up as well).

If we're going by states and territories producing FC cricketers above and beyond their population, my suggestion might actually be the ACT (Lyon, Floros, Sheridan, May, Carters and Behrendorff, not to mention Brad Haddin).

My point wasn't exactly in those numbers (and therefore the piece will be amended), but rather to point out the significant talent that New South Wales has let escape while they languish at the bottom of the Shield table coaxing runs from 30-year olds like Tim Cruickshank.matthew_woodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06997294649154263799noreply@blogger.com
